The
Eighteenth Week Dec. 11 - Dec. 17, 2006 |
This was FINALS WEEK for Peter! He
had a Biochemistry exam on Monday, Histology on Wednesday, and Anatomy
practical and written exams on Friday. WHEW! The week was
marked by study time and fly-by meals. Peter did a great job both
studying hard and keeping his stress levels down. It was a
demanding end to a challenging semester, but Peter got through it all
with flying colors!

Heather, on the other
hand, spent the week trying to wrap things up at work and at home, and
get ready to go backto the US for the holidays. That included
completing presents and gathering a few more goodies from the markets. Fishing boats parked right alongside the fish market. A lighted chicken wire and tin angel sculpture in an alley in St. George's. The produce market in the capital. Our favorite purchase
of the week: a "WonderFul" side cut can opener to replace yet another
broken kitchen tool. (Quality items, even the most basic, can be
hard to come by.) Peter loves that it's "Similar to items seen on
TV," and Heather loves that it only cost $2 EC (about $0.80 US!)
Hey, if it's only going to last a few weeks anyway, why pay a lot??

We
took a break to eat at the Prickley Bay Marina right down the street
one evening. We checked out a gorgeous yacht and enjoyed a
peaceful and delicious meal. A view of the boat from the marina's pier, and an image of the restaurant from the water. |

heavy, but brief, rainfall at the house: |
On Friday evening,
after Peter had successfully completed an Anatomy exam that lasted from
10 am through 4 pm, we returned to the Prickly Bay Marina for a
wonderful pizza dinner. This night, we enjoyed really fabulous
live music as well as time in which we could actually focus on one
another! Hooray - together again!
After our romantic
dinner, we got our party on and headed out with Britney and Ali to the
True Blue Bay Resort for an after finals blow-out!

Sunday, we went
snorkeling at Flamingo Bay, the area that we took a boat ride to for
Peter's birthday in September. Flamingo Bay turned out to be a
challenge to drive to (the upshot is that we found the country's
largest landfill), and it was a bit awkward to walk down to, but
Heather at least loves the shallow pool of the reef where fishies like
to congregate. Britney and Ali joined us this trip. Ali,
pictured below, is probably summing up his olfactory experience with
the landfill, his challenging snorkel equipment, and our run-in with
thousands of tiny, stinging jellyfish ... after all of that, they were
surprisingly still
talking to us the next day!
Are those bubbles? The photo above is actually a very large school of rather tiny fish. Peter was lucky to experience close up the school swimming, then congregating in a defensive ball, and then being bombarded by predatory tangs. The rest of us missed out on this amazing event - you've got to keep your eyes peeled to see the coolest stuff! |
