The
Tenth Week Oct. 16 - Oct. 22, 2006 |
This
week, Heather met with many students at work to assess their progress
since midterms. For some students, congratulations were in order,
and for others it was a question of securing more intensive
support services. Overall, it was great to connect with
the students and hear about what was working for them. Peter, for his part, made an effort to get back into study mode! This was no small task, and Monday night we were seen languishing with other first term students at "De Big Fish," a restaurant near campus, with Luke and Alex: |
Thursday
evening, Peter had a hockey game! (Don't worry ... although we
play after dark, there are in fact very bright flood lights on.
Heather simply doesn't know how to make the camera understand that!)

On Saturday, the
Student Government Association (SGA), held the "Sandblast," which is
essentially a big, all day party on the Grand Anse campus. There
was volleyball, soccer, swimming, boating, and tug-of-war. Peter,
being a member of SGA, helped set up the event on Friday night and
Saturday morning. He also worked at the event all day until about
7:30 pm. Peter had a good time running volleyball in the early
afternoon, then Heather appeared during Peter's mid-afternoon break,
which allowed us to enjoy swimming and spending time with
friends. After his break, Peter kept busy working behind the bar
until the close at 6:00 PM. Heather stayed the remainer of the
time, chatting with friends and ferrying non-alcoholic smoothies to
Peter. We both helped clean up afterward for a time, and then
Heather went home to get the house better organized and await Peter's
return.
After cleaning up from Sandblast, we enjoyed a quiet evening at the Prickly Bay Marina in Lance Aux Epines, which happens to specialize in pizza, and then we went home to enjoy a movie! |
On Sunday afternoon,
we were invited to spend some time at one of Heather's co-workers'
home. The house is farther into Lance Aux Epines, and it is right
on the water. It was a gorgeous and relaxing time ... just what
we needed after the Sandblast. This fabulous residence has
discreet rooms, all of which are adjoined by - actually - the outdoors
and a small central pool! It was a fabulous view into life on the
other side! Our wonderful hosts, in addition to the great
atmosphere, provided some phenomenal homemade sushi. Amazing! Thanks guys!
